About Leah

Welcome! Are you currently experiencing feelings of anxiety, anger, depression, loneliness, or powerlessness in your life or relationships? Do you find yourself struggling with painful feelings and emotions? Would you like support for childhood trauma? I am here to help…

Through my own personal journey with counselling, I understand and appreciate what it feels like to be in the client’s chair. I prioritize building a therapeutic relationship that is built upon trust, safety, collaboration, non-judgement, and care.

I believe that my role as a therapist is to walk along side of you in a supportive way that helps you to learn more about yourself, gain important insights, make positive changes, and work towards the goals that are important to you! My aim is to help you grow in self-awareness, self-empowerment, and self compassion.

Everyone’s story is different and unique. I aim to hold a safe space for you that is based upon compassionate curiosity. Your story is welcome here.

My Approach

My approach to counselling is client centered and I work from a trauma informed, holistic, compassion-focused, and strengths-based perspective. I have formal training in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person Centered Therapy. Based upon your needs and preferences, I also weave in interventions from approaches such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gestalt and Internal Family Systems.

Treatment is based on your goals and is tailored to whatever feels best for you – depending on your own personal needs, goals, and preferences for therapy. Coming from a bi-cultural, mixed heritage background (Punjabi and German Mennonite Canadian), I have great respect and appreciation for cultural diversity and I aim to provide therapy that is culturally sensitive, inclusive, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive. It is important for me to learn about your cultural and spiritual values and if relevant, weave in interventions that build upon your unique cultural and/or spiritual values and strengths.

You are welcome to book a free, 15 minutes consultation with me so that we can discuss your goals for therapy and the areas requiring support. This will give us an opportunity to answer any questions you might have for me. I look forward to meeting with you!

Education

I am a registered clinical counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Trinity Western University and a Master of Arts Degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I am also a registered early childhood educator with over fourteen years of experience supporting young children and families in the lower mainland.

Hope is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today.”
